Ahlam Rashid, a player from the UAE national team and Dubai Chess & Culture Club, achieved the title of the Arab Chess Champion under-18 in the Arab Age Group Championship held in Sousse, Tunisia. The tournament featured 225 players representing 15 Arab federations.
Ahlam secured her victory by topping the final standings with 7.5 points, a full point ahead of her closest competitor, and gained 56 rating points. This win earned her the title of International Master (WIM) directly, in accordance with the regulations of both the International and Arab Chess Federations.
The delegation returned via Dubai International Airport earlier this week, where they were welcomed by Saeed Yousef Shukri, the General Secretary, Othman Musa Abdullah, Head of Technical Commission, and Amal Al-Aref, the Women’s Activities Officer.
The Dubai Chess & Culture Club Board commended Ahlam’s achievement, highlighting her dedication and technical improvement, which culminated in her well-deserved gold medal. The board also praised the Dubai Sports Council for its significant role in supporting the club’s journey
and stressed its commitment to backing players with training programs and participation in local and international events to enhance their performance and international rankings.
Activity Schedule
The Dubai Chess & Culture Club announced its upcoming events for the remainder of the year:
Blitz Chess Tournament on Saturday, November 9.
November Classical Chess Championship from November 20–22.
National Day Chess Tournament from December 2–3.
December Classical Chess Championship from December 20–22.
Additionally, the club’s players are participating in the Arab Individual Chess Championship for men and women currently taking place in Sharjah. The club will also compete in the Qatar Masters next month.
