Dubai Chess and Culture Club concluded its annual “Allegiance to Zayed” Ramadan Rapid Chess Championship with Serbian Igor Miladnovic clinching the title. This tournament, held since 2002 in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, witnessed Miladnovic’s triumph after leading with a total of 8 points.
The closing ceremony, attended by Secretary-General Saeed Shakari, Technical Director Othman Mousa, and Executive Director Mohamed Elhusseiny, celebrated the winners’ achievements.
A total of 174 players from 29 countries participated in the championship, including 22 internationally acclaimed players and internationally ranked participants.
At the end of the ninth round, Serbian Igor Miladnovic secured the top spot with 8 points, followed by Tajikistan’s Amanatov Farrukh in second place with 7.5 points, and Ukrainian Alexander Zubariev in third with 7 points. The fourth to tenth places were earned by experienced Azerbaijani player Murad Magerrimov, UAE’s Ammar Al-Sudani, Moroccan Mokhlis Al-Adnani, Macedonian Lordchkov Vaioril, and Filipinos Mercado Livio and Oliver Demicling.
Zayed Al-Taher won the Best National Player award with 6 points, while Ahlam Rashid claimed the title of Best National Female Player with the same score. Khalifa Al-Baloushi was honored as the Best Player from Dubai Chess and Culture Club, and Shamma Khalafan Al-Suwaidi received the award for Best Female Player from the club.
Najib Mohammed Saleh, Vice President of Dubai Chess and Culture Club, congratulated the winners and expressed delight in the extensive participation of players from 29 countries in the Ramadan activities this year.
He extended gratitude to the arbitration team led by International Arbiter Mahdi Abdul Rahim, assisted by International Arbiter Salman Al-Taher, FIDE Arbiter Majid Al-Abdouli, and local Arbiters Abdullah Ali, Hamad Al-Shizawi, and Hamed Ahmed, commending their efficiency.
In a related development, Dubai Chess and Culture Club will organize Ramadan Blitz Teams Chess Tournament 2024 as part of its Ramadan program next Tuesday and Wednesday, offering prizes for the top three positions as well as special awards, including prizes for the best team of juniors under 16 years old and the best family team.
